My first friend is Jesus—not you, dear reader, though you are my friend now as well. Before all else, my friendship begins with Him. It is Jesus’ love, freely given and undeserved, that enables me to love you and others with genuine care and grace. Whether you have friends, family, or companions, let your first and deepest love be for Jesus, your truest friend.
Do you view your spouse as your friend? Your children as your friends? Relationships naturally shift through the seasons of life, but one constant remains: Jesus is our faithful friend in every moment.
Jesus’ friendship with us is intentional and transformational, rooted in His unconditional love. As we learn from Him, we are called to model that same love within our families—showing compassion, patience, and grace as we wait on the Lord’s timing.
Our service to Him begins at home, and our actions should reflect His will, not our own ambitions or assumptions. When we rush ahead of Him, as Peter did in John 13:37, declaring readiness to lay down his life, we risk misstepping. Jesus reminded Peter, “You cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.”
Friendship with Jesus calls us to trust Him, even when the way forward seems unclear. It requires that we surrender our pride and wait for His guidance in all things. This humility transforms not only our walk with Him but also our relationships with others.
Friend, brother, sister, father, mother—serve God and love others with the intentionality and humility that Jesus models. Let your friendship with Him be the wellspring from which your life flows. With Jesus as your friend, you can lead and serve your family in ways that glorify Him and reflect His love.
